National Research Nuclear University MEPhI is amongst the most recognized technical university in Russia.
It was founded in 1942 and named the Moscow Mechanical Institute of Munitions, But it soon after that was renamed as Moscow Mechanical Institute.
Then in 1953, it was named as Moscow Engineering Physics Institute, which remained as it is till 2009.
It is located near the Kashirskaya station on the Zamoskvoretskaya Line of the Moscow metro. The campus is near the famous Kolomenskoe park and museum.
The main objective of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI was to train skilled personnel for atomic programs and the soviet military.
By the order of the Russian government, on April 8, 2009, on behalf of the Russian president decree of October 7, 2008 ” On the pilot project launching on creating National Research Universities” the institute was granted the new status, it was recognized. The main objective of the university is to prepare the specialists in their respective fields, this offering higher professional, postgraduate professional, secondary professional, and additional professional education as well as education in scientific and research fields.
